The Nailsworth Games 2008
"celebrating sport in our town"

The Nailsworth Games
6th – 20th July 2008

The many sporting clubs and organisations in Nailsworth, Gloucestershire have come together to offer a feast of sport and physical activity in the month leading up to the Beijing Olympics. The inaguaral 'Nailsworth Games' gives the opportunity to have fun and to have a go at a new sporting endeavour and see what activities and sport there are on offer in the town.

Nailsworth already has its share of sporting greats though we are looking for as many people as possible to take part in a range of events. The opening ceremony is planned for Sunday 6th July at the King George V Playing Field in the town. After our own Olympic marathon runner, Dan Robinson has escorted the torch through the town, Gloucestershire’s Lord Lieutenant will open the Games.

Then Stroud Athletics Club will be staging a range of athletics events- high jump, hurdles, shot putt, discus, javelin and a fun ‘welly wanging’ competition plus running.  Young people ages 8 and over are invited to compete and there is an adults’ run of 3km.

During the fortnight there will then be events for young people and adults, which in some cases will need booking. Click Games Events to find out more. Entry forms can be obtained through the Nailsworth Town Information Service and at other outlets yet to be confirmed. The events arranged at Ruskin Mill College and Nailsworth Primary School are closed events, whilst part of the games, designed for their own pupils and students.

There will be medals for winners, and all young people who participate will receive a commemorative certificate.

So, do take this opportunity to take part, to try a new sporting event, and to have fun!
